Career Workshop: The Future of the Job Market

"The Future of the Job Market"

Abstract:

Searching for your next career opportunity is obviously much different today than it was twenty years ago or even just two years ago; that’s a given. What most people don’t realize is that searching for a job is an ever evolving part of developing one’s career especially these days as the average tenure of workers is only 4.4 years according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. As we continue to move into the future we will more than likely see the average tenure drop to two years or less which means that workers will need to be prepared to promote themselves in the job market more often than they have in the past. As we continue to move toward the future there are several actions that the savvy working individual will need to consider including how to better position themselves for that next step in their career. Searching for a career opportunity can in itself be a full-time commitment and even if you are currently employed you must build a network that will help you find that next opportunity when the time comes that you join the ranks of those searching for work.

The job market constantly changes from an employer driven market to a candidate driven market and that fluctuation is in most situations driven by the economy and employment statistics such as the unemployment rate. Knowing the current job market conditions is imperative to a successful job search; different conditions require a different approach from candidates.

This presentation will give you an inside view as to how recruiters decide whether or not to choose a candidate for a position that they are trying to hire for. You’ll better understand how to position yourself as the best candidate among many competing candidates and you will learn how technology is being used to a greater extent when it comes to the hiring process.

  • Learn how to guide your career in preparation for the next step in your career path
  • Gain new techniques that will help you decide if a career opportunity is right for you
